ABSTRACT

Since 2012 Italy has been involved in a new high-speed line project called “Terzo Valico”, which develops the railway connections between the port of Genoa and the main railway lines of Northern Italy and Europe. The Contractor Consorzio COCIV awarded CIFA the design and construction of the formworks for the casting of the intersection areas between the main lining tunnels and the perpendicular cavern tunnels. The two intersection formworks (bolted to the cavern formworks) stand out for their geometric and functional complexity. They are firstly used as a template for the installation of the rebars for the portals and then to realise a monolithic cast in situ with cross vault shape. The casting of these portals allows the subsequent digging of the main tunnel in safety conditions. The technical solution has been considered so fit to be chosen for both Polcevera and Vallemme, Cravasco and Castagnola cavern tunnels.
