ABSTRACT

Milan, Italy’s economic capital and larger metro area, is keeping on its booming period. Boom is mostly based on “TODs” Transit Oriented Developments planned to ease and increase their accessibility, on public transport in order to enhance sustainable mobility. It’s the case of “Porta Est” HSR gate station. Foreseen slightly out of Milan municipal borders in the first metropolitan ring city of Segrate, Porta Est (East Gate) will be built on Milan – Venice rail axis, thanks to aside already under construction, huge and high brand Westfield Milan mall, largest in Europe and currently – standing at about 2bn€ - major foreign investment in Italy. LIN and corresponding M4 have to be connected to gate station. The choice of extending M4 underground and TBM excavated, shifting its eastern terminus from LIN to Porta Est will maximize benefits overground allowing suburban regeneration.MM took care of a specific feasibility study.
