ABSTRACT

The The paper describes the complex logistics and extreme underground activities of two TBMs (one EPB and one Mixshield) expected to bore a total length of 15km, and 2 Pipejacking ma-chine for a total length of 13km of link sewage tunnel in the middle of the city of Buenos Aires. The geology is formed by silty clays and soft clay, silty sand and puelche (a monogranu-lar sand with a water pressure of 2.5 bar). A significant stretch of the tunnels is excavated by a Mixshield TBM under the river at a depth of 30m. The remaining part of the excavation is per-formed in densely populated urban environment. Two Shafts built with diaphragm walls and peanut shape are foreseen for the launching of the both TBMs and 69 mined Shafts are re-quired for microtunneling section. The challenge of the project consists in optimizing the pro-duction reducing the disruption to the community and stakeholder in the huge and densely populated city of Buenos Aires.
