ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the the production activities regards to the precast segmental lining for Forrestfield airport link project. The segmental lining was designed to meet the project’s concrete requirements of 120 year service life with a minimum water/binder ratio of 0.35. The precast yard has a surface area of 40,000 square meters and is located within the jobsite. It is equipped with six overhead cranes with a 10 tons capacity, automatized concrete batching plant (60 m3/hr capacity), a carousel system with 54 moulds (nine sets per six segments), controlled steam curing room, blanket curing zone, epoxy painting zone and an accredited laboratory for quality control.

This article draws its attention to the specific concrete mix design from the design up to the construction phases of the precast segmental linings.
