ABSTRACT
Line 16, a 30 km long underground metro line, is a part of a huge construction programme of over 200 km of automatic metro line with 68 stations in the Paris region.
The civil works of contract Lot 1 are for 20 km of tunnel. This contract concerns four new lines: 14, 15, 16 and 17. It constitutes a challenge for every stakeholder, with a common goal: fulfil the commitment to commissioning in time for the 2024 Olympic Games.
The simultaneous construction of all the underground works at a depth of 30 m in sands and soft rocks under high ground water pressure (5 stations, about 20 shafts and 20 km of tunnels simultaneously excavated by 6 confined type shield TBMs) makes contract lot n°1 a quite exceptional project.
