ABSTRACT

The bioactive components in plants are capable of controlling cell signal pathways either by triggering or by inhibiting the cell cycles/signals in human beings and have beneficiary effects in normalizing the pathways responsible for diseases. Food or combination of foods with required fiber content, useful flavonoids, vitamin C along with proper nutrients of vitamins, proteins, and carbohydrates and other functional components suitable to individual health can be designed. Functional food products are becoming more popular due to their effects in controlling the lifestyle diseases. Enriched or fortified food products are available in the market, and people are becoming more self-health oriented and turning to natural food products. Nutrigenomics (i.e., designing a food according to the genomic profile of a person or his health) is a developing branch of food science.
