This chapter draws upon the authors’ experiences, thoughts, and challenges as health and healthcare researchers to reflect on human factors and equity. Human factors and ergonomics (HFE) aims to improve quality of life and reduce harm, solve societal problems, improve well-being, and overall contribute to social justice—striving for social good for all people. In health and healthcare, challenges stem from the unequal distribution of problems experienced by the public, health professionals, and society. This chapter argues that HFE must commit to health-related social justice sooner rather than later, emphasize inclusion over efficiency and convenience, and work with other disciplines who value social justice.
