ABSTRACT

Work domain analysis has been used to understand cognitive, collaborative work and to design improved support for complex industries for the past 40 years. In recent years, work domain analysis has been expanded to social justice-related problems but its use has been minimal. This chapter will highlight the utility of work domain analysis in advocating for social justice through two diverse, demonstrative case studies. The first case describes the application of work domain analysis to understand and improve communication with emergency department patients with limited English proficiency. The second case provides a proof-of-concept application of work domain analysis to improve housing access. The chapter concludes with concrete recommendations for employing work domain analysis to advance social justice.
