ABSTRACT

The chapter describes the major advantages of CHEM structures over other space deployable structures. Currently used space deployable structures are heavy, complex, expensive, have some notable in-flight failures and are not stowed-volume efficient. The CHEM advanced structural concept represents the next generation of self-deployable structures. The overall simplicity of the CHEM process is one of its greatest assets. Simple procedures provided by CHEM technology greatly simplify the overall end-to-end process for designing, fabricating, deploying and rigidizing space structures. A long line of CHEM structure’s major advantages such as low mass, low stowage volume, high reliability, self-deployment, low cost and more are listed and elucidated in this chapter.
