ABSTRACT

Metal oxide nanoparticles have attracted the interest of scientists in the drugs industry and other health-related applications. Hence, the preparation method of metal oxide nanoparticles plays an essential role in developing highly safe and biocompatible nanoparticles for healthcare applications. Green synthesis is among one of the promising methods for nanoparticles synthesis because it is rapid, reproducible, cost-effective, biocompatible, and safe. Phytochemical extraction is the first step in the green synthesis of nanoparticles. The selection of phytochemical extraction method plays a crucial role in determining the physicochemical characteristics of nanoparticles which eventually help in enhancing their properties for biomedical applications. This chapter emphasizes on the recent technologies in phytochemical extraction methods, the preparation methods of metal oxide nanoparticles from various phytochemicals, as well as the cytotoxicity of green-synthesized metal oxide nanoparticles. Biomedical applications of metal oxide nanoparticles synthesized through phytochemicals are also considered.
