ABSTRACT

There are different techniques which are being used for the isolation of plant metabolites, but the most common and reliable method for isolation is chromatography. Chromatography is a technique of separation of a mixture based on differential partitioning between the mobile and stationary phases. There are different types of chromatographical techniques. In phytochemical research, these techniques are selected based on the type of analysis, the target compound, and the nature of plant product involved. The world’s flora is a rich treasure of phytochemicals which can be used in many industries. These photosynthetic machines can be said to be a gift from God because of their usefulness in the treatment and management of diseases. In this chapter, different chromatographic techniques used for the isolation and identification of phytochemicals are summarized.
