ABSTRACT
Herbal drug discovery is an essential step in the discovery of new drugs for the treatment of diseases. For many years, natural products of plant origin in its crude form have been a source of remedy against diseases especially to those in the developing countries. The traditional knowledge of herbs has proven to be invaluable even with the advent of evidence-based medicine. It is on record that about 80% of plant-derived drugs are linked to their ethnobotanical uses. To complement this, there is a need for an organized curative platform to provide reliable knowledge on herbal medicine which paves way for safer and more efficient use of plant-based medicines. The Envision Biotechnology is an organized curative herbal database platform which presents ideal information convergence of pharmaco-chemistry, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion properties, drug-likeness, drug targets, associated diseases and interaction networks of herbal medicine. This chapter is a brief overview of herbal drug discovery by the Envision Biotechnology approach.
