ABSTRACT

In the last years, enormous developments in the field of concrete technology provide the basis for new concrete structures and innovative construction methods. In this content, segmental constructions and framework structures made of ultra-high performance concrete enable fast and high-quality construction processes. A promising joint design, especially for tolerance equalisation, is the segment joint grouted with high-performance mortar. In order to evaluate the load bearing capacity of these joints, experimental investigations by means of slant shear tests were carried out with various surface characteristics of the interfaces and mortar thicknesses at iBMB, Division of Concrete Construction of the TU Braunschweig. This paper focuses on the simulation of grouted segment joints using finite element analyses. A numerical model is presented and validated by the experimental results of the slant shear tests.
