ABSTRACT

Engineered Cementitious Composite (ECC) is a unique type of high performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composite. ECC has very high tensile ductility making it as a suitable alternative solution for pavement application. However, ECC lacks aggregates, thus the (surface) pavement can be slippery which leads to higher risk of skid-traffic accident. To overcome this issue, a suitable aggregate called corundum, a hard and durable material, is used in the modified mixture design of ECC. Laboratory test results have shown that modified ECC mixed with corundum provide sufficient skid resistance with more than 55 of British Pendulum Number. A numerical model with Finite Element (FE) analysis is developed to study the skid resistance of pavement made of modified ECC. The FE model has been validated with British Pendulum Tester in laboratory scale. Further, the FE model can be used to predict the skid resistance when the ECC pavement is treated with different grooves.
