ABSTRACT

This paper presents a brief review of the literature. Topics of language, evolving fashion and semiotics analysis of the behavior of the Indian society before independence, especially during the events of 1920 and 1947, and its Western influence. In 1920, the first elections in the history of the country happened in New Delhi. The year of 1947 was tough in India, with the gain of independence from the British crown, resulting in the division of India and Pakistan. Many people died during the partition, as India became a democracy. Based on this information, the first part of this work intends to investigate and analyze the images and the symbolic relation as elements of fashion in the process of signification and memory. In the second part of the article, the objective is to establish the role of semiotics as a communication dynamics, as well as the symbols, their meaning and the way the human being represents the world, giving meaning to it. The article proposes to bring a set of theoretical systems capable of assisting both the process of design projects and the inherent process of analysis of cultural pieces, which can serve as substratum for new creations.
