ABSTRACT

There is a deep relationship between design and drawing. The creative processes of most fashion designers are based on the development of ideas through its expression in sketches. This paper, considering the relationship between design and drawing, investigates the relevance of hand-drawing in the design process, as a booster instrument when sketching the first ideas, in its development and as a critical verification of the several hypotheses. Through the study of several statements from various authors we search to investigate the permanence of drawings important role. From this theoretical approach we also intend to verify the relevance of hand-drawing teaching in the formation of the future fashion designers, despite the paradigm changes that emerge from times changes and the new assistive technologies constant progress. Most of renowned fashion designers use sketches for their creative work. Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferré, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, and for many others, sketching is the natural way for exploring and showing their new ideas. This a part of a larger post-doc research project that aims to achieve contribution on the study of creative design process, enhancing hand-drawing important value for fashion design students and professionals.
