ABSTRACT

There is a growing interest in the use of nanolime in different applications that has resulted in an increasing number of publications over the past few years. If several repeated applications of nanolime dispersions are necessary, wetting should be performed once every 2–3 cycles. Wetting after each application cycle has a negative effect on the final strength. A sprayer with a gas cartridge that produces a fine aerosol was found to be the ideal application method for the stabilisation of wall paintings. This ensured a uniform distribution during application. In addition, several samples were saturated after the application of the nanolime dispersions, again with water. Over the past few years, nanolime dispersions have been used for several applications outside of stone and mortar conservation. One special application that was found for a nanolime dispersion in iso-propanol is the cleaning and pH adjustment of vegetable-tanned leather.
