ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an automotive audio manufacturer to decode the sensory aspects of the perceived aural experience in cars. It introduces the rationale behind flash profile, focusing on its use within automotive audio. Several challenges exist in automotive audio, relating to the nature of the reproduced fields, the complex systems that they encompass and the restricted ability to conduct repeatable and robust scientific evaluations. Early car audio systems were typically comprised of a single loudspeaker to reproduce AM radio. Different loudspeakers reproduce portions of the frequency content of the audio. The chapter describes the use of descriptive analysis in the investigation of the attributes relevant to the parameters of a digital signal processing scheme intended for reproducing stereo music with a multichannel car audio system. It addresses some of these issues by employing different sensory profiling and sound field analysis methodologies.
