ABSTRACT

Bolivia is located in the Mediterranean center of South America with an area of 1,098,581 km2 and occupies 6% at the South American level. Bolivia has ratified international environmental agreements in order to contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. The country of Bolivia, at the heart of South America, is a perfect example of where high levels of biodiversity deficient information and high degrees of degradation overlap. In Bolivia, 34.5% of all the records fall within a protected area with an International Union for Conservation of Nature protection status, which indicates that biodiversity observations have been sampled slightly more inside protected areas given that 25% of the total area of the country is under protection. Natural Monuments, to preserve the outstanding natural features of sites with spectacular landscapes that have geological, physiographic and paleontological deposits, as well as a rich biological diversity.
