ABSTRACT

Spintronics has expanded its choice of materials to the organic semiconductors (OSCs). The field of OSCs nowadays combines considerable achievements in research and applications with challenging expectations. OSCs have become a requisite of various roadmaps and research agendas, although many serious difficulties have still to be circumvented in order to meet these challenges. OSCs combine a strong intramolecular covalent carbon–carbon bonding with a weak van der Waals interaction between molecules. The electrical properties of OSC are usually depicted by two main components: charge injection and charge transport. The first experimental report on injection in operated organic spintronic devices featured a lateral device that combined LSMO electrodes and OSC conducting channels between 100 and 500nm long. While the interest in spin injection and long-distance spin transport in OSCs was growing, several groups also started to explore the possibilities of the materials as spin tunnel barriers.
