ABSTRACT

A 7-month-old, full-term, healthy male presents with cough, congestion, and increased work of breathing. According to his mother, this is his third episode of “bronchiolitis.” He takes albuterol at home as needed. On exam he is tachypneic. There are diminished breath sounds diffusely and he has some mild subcostal retractions. You decide to give him nebulized albuterol and order a chest x-ray. The albuterol does not improve his work of breathing.
