ABSTRACT

A 4-day-old male infant is brought to the emergency department because of “bloody urine in the diaper.” Parents noticed the discoloration after a diaper change earlier in the day, so they brought the patient in for evaluation. The patient is otherwise doing very well. The patient was born at 39 weeks via a normal, spontaneous, vaginal delivery. There were no complications and prenatal labs were normal. The patient went home with parents after a couple of days. The patient has been breastfeeding well, making approximately six to eight wet diapers and one to two non-bloody stools per day. Prior to this episode, the parents had not noticed any blood in the urine. There is no family history of any kidney problems. No fevers, vomiting, trauma, or lethargy are reported.
