ABSTRACT
A 7-year-old male is brought to the emergency department due to discoloration of his tongue. His mother noticed the darkening of the tongue one night previously, but it has not improved. The patient has had upset stomach and loose stools for the past 2 days. However, the mother states that the patient has not had vomiting and has been drinking a normal amount. Urine output has been normal. No fevers. Activity level is normal. He denies any recent ingestion of any dark-colored foods.
