ABSTRACT

Intrapartum stillbirth is defined as the death of a fetus after the onset of labor. Women with previous intrapartum stillbirth need compassionate care along with medical management. Such women should be managed preferably in a tertiary care hospital by an expert who is well experienced in managing such subsequent pregnancies. As such, there is limited evidence for the management, role of elective induction, or preferable mode of delivery; however, each case has to be individualized depending on the circumstances, cause of previous stillbirths, and current obstetric complication. This chapter discusses the latest classification system of the World Health Organization, the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision–Perinatal Mortality (ICD-PM), and the importance of capturing the actual timing of death, the fetal cause along with the maternal condition. A detailed approach to women with previous intrapartum stillbirth is described starting from the preconception period through the delivery.
