ABSTRACT

Embedded systems (ES) are used to develop and integrate a large number of electronic devices for wired and wireless communication. This chapter presents the ES design for generating pseudo-random (PR) sequences. It describes the transmission process for the encryption of a message. The chapter provides statistical tests to prove that the cryptogram exhibits PR sequences. It discusses the reception process for the decryption of a message. The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) protocol is used for communication of the ES because it has an easy configuration, fast serial data bus transmission, and low quantity lines for connecting other peripherals. The chapter proposes the SPI protocol configuration with 16 bits using two smart-displays Mikromedia for dsPIC33EPs. It examines the transmission process of confidential multimedia message m(t), which is divided into three stages: acquisition process, encryption stage, and transmission of encrypted message. The message encryption considers two subprocesses: diffusion and confusion.
