ABSTRACT

This chapter presents comparative study on different scrambling techniques like matrix transformation, bit plane scrambling, pixel swaping, row and column swapping, row and column swapping with rotation. It describes different image scrambling techniques and their comparison and performance analysis. The chapter provides different image scrambling techniques used in image encryption. The techniques are also applied to different types of images to demonstrate their cryptographic effects. Key based scrambling algorithm is a very effective and simple method of image scrambling and encryption. 2D mapping is one of the simplest way of scrambling an image I with dimension where M represents the height of the image and N represents the width of the image. Scrambling is one of the most important parts of confusion diffusion based image encryption. A huge number of scrambling techniques are available in literature.
