ABSTRACT
Radionuclide toxicity, usually called radiotoxicity, is based on the deleterious effects of ionizing radiation on biological tissues. Once the energy of the radiation is deposited on a tissue, its effects are the same, regardless of the origin of the radiation. This is the basis of the radiological protection system, in which main concepts, magnitudes, categories and types of exposure, and reference levels are introduced in this chapter.
