ABSTRACT

Although the performance of surface foundations has been investigated against a large dislocation from a dip-slip fault, the parameters effecting on the fault rupture – foundation interaction should be examined. This paper presents a series of centrifuge model tests to investigate the parameters affecting the interaction between reverse fault rupture and shallow foundations embedded at a depth of D such as the foundation embedment depth, surcharge load of the foundation and dip angle of the fault. The interaction mechanisms and the effect of parameters on the behaviour of the foundation are described.
