ABSTRACT

This chapter offers best practices for planning and running a Toolbox workshop, as designed and carried out by the Toolbox Dialogue Initiative (TDI). By unpacking TDI’s process from pre-workshop preparation, such as information gathering, through post-workshop report and reflection, this chapter covers every step from beginning to end. Using an iterative process, TDI designs workshops to support the needs and goals of a group or team by working closely with partners. This chapter outlines the five main steps in this process: information gathering, instrument development, workshop implementation, final report, and follow-up reflection. Each step is broken down into its key components with specific attention being paid to instrument development, workshop preparation, and facilitation. Tips for developing Toolbox prompts and facilitating a Toolbox dialogue are contained in this chapter, along with a sample Toolbox workshop agenda that can serve as quick reference guides when preparing to run a Toolbox workshop.
