ABSTRACT

The development of the cruise vessel fleet and the newbuilding orderbook has been record fast in the past few years including many new designs. The orderbook includes large cruise vessels as well as niche market cruise vessels. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has adopted new regulations for safety and environmental issues, which must be implemented both for the newbuilding fleet and partly also for the existing fleet. The designers must understand the requirements of the new regulations, how to implement the requirements into the design, bearing in mind the economical and operational requirements of the shipowner. A good, previous state of arts for cruise ships have been done e.g. by Levander (1991, 2004) and this documents concentrates mainly on the very recent development.
