ABSTRACT

Water quality monitoring is conducted for various reasons. In order to conduct water quality monitoring in an appropriate and efficient manner, a design approach should be used. Proper water quality designs consider defining the water quality problem, forming monitoring objectives, developing a study or statistical design, determining the scale of the study, selecting variables to monitor and the type of sample to collect, sampling location, the frequency and duration of sampling, methods for collecting the sample and analysis of its contents, and land use and management monitoring.
