ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses high-quality digital information resources which can meet the needs of consumer health informatics (CHI) students, researchers, and practitioners alike. Free high-quality health information resources from the federal government, such as PubMed MEDLINE, as well as citation products Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, are also explored. The chapter focuses on two important places: bibliographic databases and websites. To find high-quality literature in CHI, the need to search the bibliographic databases that index the published literature of that domain. PubMed is the name for the search engine for the MEDLINE database, described below, but also an access portal for dozens of other databases containing content from books to genomes. In addition to more than 50 specialties within nursing, the allied health professions whose literature is covered here include emergency services, nutrition/dietetics, audiology, physical therapy, and surgical technology.
