ABSTRACT

Agrobiodiversity and agroecology represent two important new trends in the field of agriculture law. Agriculture law is an important area in the subdivisions of private law as it includes all regulatory laws related to agricultural activities and to the buying and selling of agricultural products. Agrobiodiversity and agroecology represent new trends in agriculture law. From a private law perspective, the main question about the importance of considering agrobiodiversity and agroecology in the regulation of agriculture law is how this area of law is affected by the emergence of the new values of agrobiodiversity and agroecology. This chapter shows that, in legal terms, agrobiodiversity and agroecology are values which can lead to changes not only in the field of agriculture law but also, in general terms, in private law relationships. A clear example of this is in the field of consumer law, such as when a new law prescribes mandatory labeling for some information related to agrobiodiversity and agroecology.
