ABSTRACT

Mobile ad hoc network consist of large number of mobile nodes distributed randomly. The performance of the network, in general, reduces, with node failure; link failure; con- gestion; interference and environmental conditions. All these attributes have significant impact on the evaluation of network reliability, a critical aspect of mobile ad hoc network. The existing literature points out that the nodes of a network can be distributed using two approaches, namely uniform and non-uniform. Several researchers have considered the mobile nodes to be distributed uniformly. But in reality or in practicality; node movements are highly random. This implies that reliability evaluation studies considering uniform node distribution is not a valid study. With this motivation, a non-stationary distribution of nodes with dynamic evaluation framework has been considered to evaluate the network performance through simulation. The results indicate that the reliability of the mobile ad hoc network decreased. This decrease happens because of the availability of more number of hops between the designated source-destination node pairs with non- uniformly distributed nodes.
