ABSTRACT

3D face reconstruction from a single image is a challenging problem, with wide range of applications. In this paper an attempt has been made to propose a novel technique to create 3D facial model from a 2D facial image without using expensive hardware like infrared sensors for its implementation. The proposed technique does not involve complicated image manipulation or mathematical calculations. The real time model has been created using very simple image processing technique considering precise facial mapping and depth prediction algorithm based on the light intensity variance in an image. The model can be used as an independent facial mapping tool which can be further developed into a facial recognition system.
