ABSTRACT

A comprehensive physical examination of the elbow joint in children is essential for arriving at a correct diagnosis. The pediatric elbow joint is different from that of adults by the presence of growing physis, unossified cartilage, and injury patterns specifically seen in a growing age. The injuries may produce deformities primarily of cosmetic concern like malunited supracondylar humerus fractures or functional limitations like lateral condyle fractures. This chapter discusses a systematic approach to elbow pathologies, be it traumatic or other etiologies that form the first step in management. A comprehensive approach to elbow physical examination, including provocative and special tests, along with proper radiology, will help in formulating an accurate diagnosis.
