ABSTRACT

Hip pathology in a child is a diagnostic challenge for the attending clinician. It results in significant morbidity affecting day-to-day activities. The importance of early diagnosis has been emphasized repeatedly as it is often missed in the early phases due to masquerading presentation. The examiner must be vigilant in localizing and diagnosing the pathology to facilitate early diagnosis and a better outcome. The chapter focuses on evaluating a child for disorders around the hip joint. This chapter discusses the clinical evaluation of a pediatric patient, be it a neonate or adolescent, in a systematic manner along with a description of special tests.
