ABSTRACT

“Optimization and Dose Reduction in CT Imaging” presents the background, motivation, and practical tips of optimization radiation dose in computed tomography (CT). The chapter steps through and describes how each component of a CT system, from the x-ray source to the radiation detectors and underlying software, influences the final quality of a CT image and how radiation dose is intertwined. Lastly, the chapter presents information about how the latest advances in CT technology, such as automated tube current modulation and iterative reconstruction, can be introduced into the clinic to generate optimal image quality at an acceptable radiation dose.
