ABSTRACT

This research aimed to determine the relationship between peer support and academic stress on boarding senior high school students. The hypothesis proposed was that there existed a negative relationship between peer support and academic stress on boarding senior high school students. The researchers used a peer support scale developed by Thompson and Mazer (2009), the Student Academic Support Scale (SASS), and an academic stress scale adapted from Sun et al. (2011), the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescent (ESSA). Both scales were given to 100 boarding high school students. The results showed a correlation coefficient of r = −0.38 with value of significance p = 0.000 for peer support and academic stress; thus the hypothesis was accepted.
