Perennial (permanently flowing) and seasonal (temporarily flowing) streams are diverse ecosystems that can be found on every continent. This entry provides an updated overview of perennial and seasonal streams, including their definition, classification, spatial zonation, their role as fluvial ecosystems, the ecosystem services they provide, and the main issues related to their management and conservation.
