ABSTRACT

This chapter introduced an approach to evaluate riparian conditions using physical structural integrality (PSI) values derived from remote sensing and validated by field measurements. All indicators and subindicators were calculated and scored based on the grid of basic evaluation units (BEUs). The comparison between PSI values derived from field measurements and remote sensing observation was made in measurement sites and sections to validate the evaluating results. The study confirmed that the approach was practical to evaluate the riparian PSI along the Songhua River, the fifth longest river in China.
