ABSTRACT

With the ongoing global urbanization progress, it is essential to map urban dynamics at the local, regional, and global scales for urban planning and environmental management. Because various remote sensing observations have been used to map the rapid urban land expansion around the world during the past decades, this chapter discusses representative remote sensing contributions to urban dynamics mapping. Despite considerable progress made in previous studies, more efforts are needed in high temporal frequency analysis and inner-urban form modeling for a better understanding of urban dynamics in a rapidly urbanizing world.
