ABSTRACT

Land surface temperature (LST) is a key indicator of the Earth’s surface energy and is used in a range of hydrological, meteorological, and climatological applications. Satellite remote sensed LST products, from geostationary-orbiting and polar-orbiting platforms, are the only resources providing sustainable regional and global coverage. Among LST measurements, those LSTs remote sensed from geostationary satellites can be up to every 5 minutes in temporal resolution and a few kilometers in spatial resolution; while that can be twice a day in temporal resolution and less than a kilometer in spatial resolution from the polar-orbiting satellites. This entry introduces techniques and products of the satellite remote sensed LST data.
