ABSTRACT

A lot of experimental studies have been done to understand the real behavior of Collapsible soil. But there is some limitation to understand their behavior with experimental methods. DEM is a numerical method that can be used to address the behavior of collapsive soils. In this paper, a 2D DEM code was developed to simulate the collapse behavior of granular soil during isotropic compression by focusing on changes in the physical properties of soluble mixtures during dissolution. The effect of percentage of dissoluble particles are simulated on the load-deformation behavior of Collapsible soil. The results show that the location of soluble particle is very important parameter on the deformation. If the dissolution particle not located in the main chain forces, no settlement takes place. Also, the well graded particles reaches to higher density during confining pressure and the effect of local dissolution has lower impact on their load-deformation behavior.
