ABSTRACT

During the second half of the last century, electricity demand increased dramatically resulting in a rapid growth of fossil fuel-based power capacity. Although the majority of human societies at the end of the 20th century had access to constant electricity supply, which suggests a significant aspect of contemporary life quality, the negative impacts associated with the profligate use of fossil fuels in electricity generation comprise one of the major factors in environmental pollution. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the energy sector have been increasing in the last 40 years by 52% reaching at the end of 2014, 32.4 billion metric tons (IEA 2016b).
