ABSTRACT

Nano materials are broadly used to improve the properties of construction materials in civil engineering. Many research studies indicated that the implementations of the Nano materials in asphalt binder were effective and their application did help the enhancement of asphalt pavement. However, the challenge of using Nano materials in the asphalt is to disperse them homogeneous and make the asphalt and Nano materials work together. Therefore, asphalt emulsion is a decent option for Nano materials to be blended due to the low viscosity and good flowability. In this study, three Nano-fibers were applied to modify the asphalt emulsions to achieve the homogeneous asphalt binders and then the rheological properties of asphalt emulsion residue blended with 0.5% Nano-fibers were investigated. It was found that the Nano-fibers could be effectively dispersed in the asphalt emulsion and the high temperature properties were improved in general.
