ABSTRACT

The design and development of durable and robust pavements that are able to carry the increasing traffic loads and to tolerate the changing climate conditions is one main challenge of recent research in pavement engineering. To solve this task prospectively, the temperature dependent structural behavior of the layered pavements loaded by rolling tires has to be investigated fundamentally first in order to gain a profound understanding of the conditions inside the pavement. For this reason, the present contribution provides a holistic simulation approach, which considers the tire as well as the pavement in a realistic manner. Additionally, aspects of the consideration of uncertain data in the tire-pavement interaction are discussed.
