ABSTRACT
The paper presents the information about the formation of the scientific school of geomechanics in the Institute of Mining, Ural Branch of RAS. The School has held the path of scientific perception of the processes and phenomena in rock mass accompanying the development of mineral deposits. The paper is dedicated to fundamental problems of geomechanics and shows the demand for the results of research at the mining enterprises. The paper describes the main results of the fundamental and applied research performed by the Ural scientists-geomechanics within the period from 2012 to 2017. Discovery of the relationship between natural and technogenic catastrophes with the recent geodynamic movements expands the practical application of research results from the mining to other areas of the mining looking for the prognosis and prevention of natural and technogenic catastrophes.
