ABSTRACT
Description is given of the methods of pillar stability estimation during development of Zhezkazgan copper deposit (Kazakhstan) using a room and pillar method and during pillar extraction. Loads on pillars are modelled as concentrated forces and calculated based on the strain compatibility of pillars and host rocks. Strength of pillars is determined through back analysis of actual pillar failures.
