ABSTRACT

Sochi is located in northern Caucasus, which shows a seismically active region. The mountainous zone of Greater Sochi is widely underlain by mudstone of low strength. To ensure the safety of the roadway slope underlain by mudstone, the numerical assessment of the slope stability was carried out. The influence of physical-mechanical properties and slope angle on slope safety factor was analyzed. Regarding physical-mechanical properties, the stability of the slope turns out to be more sensitive to cohesion of mudstone than material density and internal friction angle, through sensitivity analysis of slopes with different angles. The safety factor (Fs) under different slope angles and cohesion is summarized at a static condition and a seismic condition, respectively. Safety factor contour maps were drawn to indicate stability boundary and to compare the static condition and the seismic condition.
